HIPS

This page is part of my Central Lighting modification where I used Light My Bricks (LMB) lighting components to light and power the entire model from a single power source.

Hips

Before we can attach our Legs to the Hips in Issue 96, we first need to create a path for the wiring of the foot lights running up the leg.

Step 1

After the soft Adhesive Discs were attached to our Hip Covers in Issue 96, I made small cross cuts in the felt with my hobby knife:

Step 2

I fed the plug of a Connecting Cable-15cm through the hole, as shown:

I did the same on the other side as well:

Step 3

I attached a 2-port Expansion Board to each Cable, as shown:

Step 3

Using tweezers, I fished the plugs of each Cable out through the inboard top holes of each Hip Cover. These were connected to a 6-Port Expansion Board, as shown:

If you did this with the round side Hip Covers removed, they can now be installed on the assembly:

Leg Connections
Step 4

As each Leg was attached to the Hips, I connected the wire of the foot repulsor LED we added to the matching 2-Port Expansion Board:

When closing up these thighs, be sure the wiring is not pinched:

Central Leg Support
Step 5

Before the Central Leg Support was attached to the Hips assembly in Issue 97, I temporarily separated the upper hip wiring and taped them to the tops of the Hip Covers on each side, like this:

This makes sure we can still reach this wiring once the Central Leg Support is installed:

Step 6

On the side without the Expansion Board, I fed the plug of the 15cm Cable through this gap in and over to the other side:

Here, it was connected back into the Expansion Board:

Step 7

Here, I ran a Connecting Cable – 15cm through the Central Leg Support via this opening:

I connected this Cable to the Expansion Board, as seen here:

Step 8

To keep this Expansion Board in place and hidden, I used some red electrical tape to secure up inside the Central Leg Support:
