This page is part of my Premium Base series of articles.

In the tenth stage of the Premium Base assembly, we will begin assembling the Base Segments and lighting.

Materials: All of the non-electrical parts in this issue are plastic.

Mark III Premium Base (10)

Stage 1 – Placing the LED Strips
Step 1

Peel the backing paper from one side of a Double-Sided Adhesive Tape:

Step 2

Press the exposed adhesive side of this Double-Sided Adhesive Tape into the center of this groove of a Base Segment:

Step 3

Remove the second backing paper from the Double-Sided Adhesive Tape, leaving the adhesive strip behind:

Step 4

Carefully place the smooth side of an LED Strip onto this Adhesive Tape with the wiring heading towards the right, as shown. When happy with the alignment, firmly press the LED Strip into place:

Repeat these steps to install the second LED Strip into the other Base Segment:

Stage 2 – Assembly of the Base Segments
Step 1

Retrieve your Premium Base assembly. Fit one of the Base End Caps to the seam between two Outer Frames, as shown.

You may notice the white scratches in my Outer Frame to the right of this End Cap. Those are my fault, but this is the back of the Base anyway:

There are tabs along the sides of these End Caps that fit into the thick groove along the Outer Frames:

Secure this Base End Cap to the Outer Frames with two (2) JM screws.

This is your friendly reminder to try using 3-in-One Oil on all screws going into metal:

Repeat the previous steps to fit the second Base End Cap to the next seam between the Outer Frames, as shown:

Again, secure this Base End Cap to the Outer Frames with two (2) JM screws:

Step 2

Turn your Premium Base assembly over and fit one of the Base Segments (with the LED Strip facing down) into position.

It was at this point where I realized that I did not install the Base Cover correctly in the previous issue. This prevented the installation of any Base Segments as the holes were not aligned. I needed to remove the screws and rotate it into this correct position, as shown. Note the orientation of the Battery Cover tab in relation to the Printed Circuit Board:

Then, I could fit the first Base Segment. This Segment should be placed so it the right side overhangs only one of the Base Caps, as shown:

The reason for this is that there is a small ledge along the right edge of these Base Segments, as seen here. Therefore, it will be best to install the Segments in a clockwise direction:

Lay the second Base Segment to the right of the first, as shown.

Be careful not to trap or pinch any of the LED Strip wiring while installing these Segments:

Secure the inner edges of the both Base Segments to the Base Cover with four (4) IM screws, as shown:

Step 3

Secure the outer edges of these Base Segments to the Base End Caps with three (3) LP screws:

Step 4

Route the plugs of each LED Strip through the base and connect them to sockets ‘G’ and ‘H’ of the Printed Circuit Board, as shown:

With this issue of the Premium Base complete, you can test the lighting if you so choose. Simply install batteries into the Battery Box and press the Switch we installed back in Premium Base 1.
