Stage 1 – Closing the Chest
Steps 1-2
Retrieve your Chest assembly from Issue 80 and set it front down on your work surface. Take note of the Reactor Mast we installed in Issue 72 (arrow below):
Retrieve your Rear Armor section from the previous issue. Note this small hole in the back – the end of the Reactor Mast needs to pass through this hole during assembly.
This may take a few tries to get correct. It may also help to temporarily attach a piece of string or thread to the end of the Reactor Mast to help guide it through the hole:
Ensure the upper tab of the Rear Armor fits into this slot of the Neck Armor (73D), as shown:
For a better fitment on my model, I needed to remove some paint/flashing from these two corners of the front Chest structure with a metal file:
As I was fitting this Rear Armor, I realized I needed to install the components of my Central Lighting Mod – Chest first. This required the installation of the Helmet and both Arms a bit earlier than expected. I will cover the installation of these components in Issue 91 per the instructions:
Step 3
Secure the Rear Armor to the Chest assembly with four (4) IM screws. You may need a screwdriver with a longer shaft for this step:
Stage 2 – Assembly of the Back Plates
Step 1
Rotate the rear Flaps and Spoilers up out of the way, then press the two pins of the Left Back Plate and Right Back Plate into the small holes of these matching recesses on the Rear Armor Plate, as shown:
Stage 3 – Assembly of the Interior Back Details
Step 1
Press the pins of the Left Interior Detail and Right Interior Detail into the holes at these locations on the Rear Armor Plate, as shown:
Thoughts
The back armor of our 1:3 scale Iron Man Mark III Armor is now complete! Keep the unused Upper Breastplate and two Pectoral Details safe until the next issues arrive.
